The starting point of the design inspiration for the Rovya was the client, who exuded a flair for the bold and effortlessly embodied the spirit of 1960s dolce vita Italy. Drawing inspiration from Gio Ponti's Villa Planchart in Caracas, Venezuela, the design team sought to create a character-driven home that evokes a refined and eccentric sensibility.
One of the standout features of the Rovya is the Gio Ponti inspired flooring, which becomes the focal point of the house. Its triangular lines are mirrored on the hallway ceilings, creating a sense of continuity and visual interest. The large flow layout of the house maximizes the opening of the sight line to the sea, providing breathtaking views and a seamless connection to the outdoors.
Materials such as marbles, terrazzo, colorful tiles, and teak wood were carefully selected to bring the design to life. The addition of black accessories, polka and striped ceramics, cork chairs, Egyptian art pieces, plush textiles, and metallic accents adds depth and personality to the space.
The Rovya boasts a built-up area of 300 sqm on a plot of land of 100 sqm. It features five bedrooms, two of which offer stunning sea views, and five bathrooms. The open floor plan of the reception area is divided into two comfortable seating areas for guests and a dining area. The outdoor space includes a rectangular pool with a floating teak deck, a curved bar, and multiple seating areas for family members and guests to enjoy.
Yasmina Makram Ebeid and her team at Yasmina Makram Studios have created a home that harmoniously infuses conversationalist pieces in a comfortable setting. The Rovya is a study in the coherence of flow, function, and flair, showcasing the perfect balance between standout design and purposeful functionality.
The Rovya is located in Almaza Bay, a residential community on the North Coast of Egypt along the Mediterranean. The design process started in the winter of 2018, and construction began early in 2019. The villa was delivered to the client in the summer of 2020, providing them with a unique and luxurious summer retreat.
This exceptional design has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. The Rovya stands out for its well-designed, practical, and innovative features that meet professional and industrial requirements. It is a testament to the studio's commitment to integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, resulting in a design that brings fulfillment and positive feelings to its inhabitants.
